Other ways to take it

  • SSAT at Home: typed on your own computer and proctored online. One per testing year, in the US and Canada.
  • Test center (Prometric): typed, at a testing center, in the US, Canada, and many other countries.
  • Flex: a paper test on a date a school or consultant sets up.

The at-home and test center versions are typed, including the writing sample, so practice typing if your child will take one of them.

Picking a date

Most schools have application deadlines in January or February, and scores take about two weeks. Work back from the earliest deadline, and leave room for a second try if your child might want one. Six to eight weeks of short practice before the date is plenty for most kids. See the study plan, or last-minute prep with less time.
